5/12 Scholarships

5/12 Scholarships
The 5/12 Scholarship, an award for fifth graders, is based on demonstration of potential, academic achievement, personal involvement, school attendance and financial need. The progress of scholarship recipients is followed yearly from the fifth grade to high school graduation, with the student's scholarship account balance awarded upon entrance in a post-secondary institution. The deposits are $200 for the 5th grade, $100 for 6th, $100 for 7th, $100 for 8th, $100 for 9th, $100 for 10th, $100 for 11th and $200 for 12th with the potential to earn $1,000. If the student has an unsuccessful year, he or she doesn’t earn the money for that year but can remain in the 5/12 Scholarship program. If he or she has a 2nd unsuccessful year, he/she is withdrawn from the program.
Students can access the funds for post-secondary education upon high school graduation and have up to three years after graduation to access the funds. Funds can be used for any kind of post-secondary education.
Students in the fifth grade are selected by educators and principals for the program annually in April/May with recognition at the Partners in Education Youth Celebration in May at the Meyer Theatre.
